The Original GoBible® is a hand-held, portable device preloaded with the entire audio version of the Christian Bible. The Original GoBible® does not interact with a PC; all of its content, over 70 hours of audio, has been downloaded onto the device. This is an audio device only. The Original GoBible’s interactive on-screen menu allows the user to easily scroll through the Old and New Testaments and select the book, chapter, and verse which the user wants to begin play at. The user may also, for convenience, scroll through a Story Index of over 225 popular Bible stories. Additionally, the user has the option of following the Original GoBible's "Bible-in-a-Year" plan for listening to the entire Bible in 365 days. The Original GoBible® provides a “Topic Index” that allows a user to find specific scripture passages of particular spiritual relevance to almost thirty relevant topics. Also, the Original GoBible has a Holiday/Events Index that gives scriptural guidance on over a dozen holidays and events that affect all our lives. Lastly, the Original GoBible® can support up to 36 Bookmarks so the user can mark their favorite passages or where they left off listening. Presently, The Original GoBible® is offered with either the New International Version (NIV) narrated by Max McLean, the King James Version as read by Alexander Scourby or the New King James Version narrated by Stephen Johnston.
What makes the Original GoBible® device unique is that no other audio version of the Bible anywhere takes the audio down to the verse level. All current recordings of the Bible break down the listening option to the chapter level. We understand that people talk about, think about and study the Bible at the verse level. Therefore, we have cut the audio to the verse level and indexed it so you may search for and begin play at any verse point in the Bible. This has never been done before with the audio version of the Bible and the Original GoBible® is the only device in the world with this feature!
The Original GoBible® is operated with one AAA battery that can operate the device for more than 24 hours. The Original GoBible® is approximately 3.5 inches by 2.5 inches by .5 inch. The screen size measures 2.4 inches in diameter. It weighs approximately 3.2 ounces. The box comes with an Original GoBible® device, headphones, a carrying case, a belt clip and a battery. The Original GoBible® may also be played through two accessories; a set of portable speakers or an FM transmitter that allows audio to play through a car stereo; both may be purchased on the GoBible® website. The Original GoBible® contains narrations by three well-known voices.
Max McLean, who narrated the New International Version (NIV) for the Original GoBible®, is President of Fellowship for the Performing Arts, narrator for the Listener’s Bible audio line, and speaker on the daily radio program Listen to the Bible which airs on over 670 radio affiliates worldwide.
As the narrator of the Listener’s Bible, McLean is committed to recapturing the early oral tradition of telling the Bible story with clarity and power. He brings a unique blend of dramatic expression and theological understanding that make listening to the Bible a joyous, rewarding experience. His recordings of the Bible have been nominated for Best Inspirational Audio by the Audio Publisher's Association on two separate occasions.
But he is best known for his theatrical presentations of Mark’s Gospel, Genesis, and the Screwtape Letters. Each of these performances has received critical acclaim in a wide array of publications including the Chicago Tribune, New York Times and Wall Street Journal.
His theatrical productions have appeared in several off-Broadway theaters in New York; at the Edinburgh Fringe Theater Festival in Scotland; Pegasus Theater in Chicago; the Dallas Theater Center; the Stratford Festival Theater, as well as dozens of colleges and performing arts venues across the country, including Duke University, Brown University and Smith College.
Alexander Scourby (1913-1985), who narrated the King James Version for the Original GoBible®, is best known for his precise, mellifluous voice he leant to the narration of some of the most beloved literary works. Originally from Brooklyn, New York, he trained in Shakespearean roles in the 1930s and perfected his voice in radio dramas in the 1940s. He quickly became a well-known sound on Broadway, in motion pictures, and on television.
Scourby recorded talking books starting in 1937 and is particularly remembered for his landmark recording of the entire King James Version of the Bible. He was also the narrator of many television documentaries, notably the series of specials on CBS entitled “The Body Human,” as well as many of the National Geographic specials. His last narrating assignment was the documentary “Toscanini: The Maestro,” in 1985. Although Scourby made voice recordings of more than 500 different books, he considered the Bible to be his most important.
Stephen Johnston, who narrated the New King James Version for the Original GoBible®, has been narrating and producing television, radio and audio Bible products since 1981. In the past two decades, more than 100 million cassettes, CDs and DVDs of his narrations and productions have been sold.
In addition to his Bible narrations and productions, Johnston is also a recipient of the coveted Emmy Award for his work in Public Television. He has produced or narrated six PBS series. He recently won the National Silver Microphone award for his narration and production of the Civil War Documentary "Shiloh."
His headquarter studios and company, The Stephen Company, are located in Newport Beach, California, where his complete digital audio facilities provide for a continuing catalogue of award-winning television, radio and audio productions.
Johnston is known internationally as a "master narrator" by his colleagues, with worldwide sales of his many productions. He has just signed to do a new series for 2007 Public Television called “Faces of Culture.”
